A gently curved, slender stainless steel blade handles a wide range of everyday cutting. At 170mm, it is longer than a petty knife and agile enough for daily prep, giving you one dependable knife for most small jobs.

Where It Shines

Occasion Best For Why It Works
Everyday Prep Vegetables, fruit, small ingredients 170mm blade covers a wide range of daily tasks
Slicing Bread, cheese, cold cuts Slender, curved blade for smooth cuts
Light Trimming Meat and fish Fine blade for controlled work

Craftsmanship

The square handle is made from solid zelkova (keyaki), a hardwood prized in Japan for its fine grain and durability. Its soft touch and visible wood grain give the knife a natural, warm look, and no two handles are exactly alike.

The Morinoki Series

Shizu Hamono was founded in 1980 in Seki, Gifu, Japan’s famous blade-making city. The Morinoki series was developed with input from the company’s female staff, and its design and packaging share the same gentle, warm character as the knife itself.

Presented in charming wave-shaped packaging, this knife is ready to give. It makes a thoughtful gift for home cooks and anyone who enjoys a well-made everyday tool.

Some questions and answers are automatically generated.

How light is this knife to use?
The knife weighs approximately 90g and reviewers consistently highlight its lightweight feel. Both customers note the light construction enables fatigue-free work during extended prep, making it comfortable to use for long periods in the kitchen.
Does the blade stay sharp over time?
The 3-layer high-carbon steel core is engineered to hold a fine edge longer than standard steel. Reviewers praise its sharpness and edge retention, though the product description recommends honing regularly and sharpening as needed to maintain peak performance.
Is this knife suitable as a gift?
Yes. The knife comes beautifully presented in a traditional paulownia wood gift box. One reviewer specifically mentions it makes an excellent gift, noting the attractive wooden packaging, and the product description positions it as an exceptional gift for home cooks and culinary enthusiasts.
Does the 3-layer steel construction require special care?
The stainless steel cladding on both sides protects the high-carbon core and adds rust resistance, making it lower-maintenance than pure high-carbon steel. Hand wash only, dry immediately, and hone regularly—no dishwasher use.
How does the thin blade affect cutting?
The blade is finished to be as thin as possible, which minimizes drag and allows cuts with significantly less force than conventional knives. This design makes slicing and breaking down ingredients more effortless and precise.
